René Meulensteen - The "Truth"?

I'll keep this very quick. According to an interview given by Fulham CEO Alistair Mackintosh in October 2014, René Meulensteen did not want to be the manager. He was Martin Jol's de facto Assistant Manager. When Martin Jol is sacked, in my opinion Shahid Khan messed up his PR. What Shahid Khan should have done is specify that René Meulensteen was caretaker manager. Which he didn't.

As a result, everyone thought that Meulensteen was the new Fulham manager. Shahid Khan, not René Meulensteen, then appointed Alan Curbishley to be "technical director": manager. When Curbishley spent his games sitting in the director's box at the top of the Riverside stand, René Meulensteen, who I imagine was due to be Curbishley's assistant, was now on his own. Meulensteen therefore appointed Ray Wilkins.

Just as it was all coming together, the club appoint Felix Magath to fulfill Curbishley's position. Magath then sacked Meulensteen, Wilkins, and Curbishley.

Khan's intended structure:

Technical Director: Alan Curbishley
Head Coach: René Meulensteen
Assistant Head Coach: Ray Wilkins

In proper footballing terms:

Manager: Alan Curbishley
Assistant Manager: René Meulensteen
Coach: Ray Wilkins

What a balls-up.
